Here are some to-do's for our Town
Board:
1. Pass
a “Whistle Blower Law”, for public employees. The
“Tax Abuse” endured by the Village Residents for
the last 40-50 years cannot be allowed to happen
again. Public employees in a position to know about
fraud, harassment, theft and abuses of power must be
able to come forward without fear of retribution.
2. Revise the Town Ethics Law to match the
elective position’s term of office. The current
Supervisor has abused this law by technically
abiding with it as written but not being faithful to
its intent.
3. Shine the light on the long standing debate on
sharing services within the Town & other
Municipalities. The objective is for Taxpayers to
avoid paying double and to avoid the confusion &
aggravation caused by needless duplication. New
Paltz applied for and received a $50,000.00 State
grant for a professional review of duplication of
services to be provided to the Voters for their
review. Mike Hayes does not want to study it, review
it or engage the public with it. Why? As and elected
official Mike Hayes is obligated comply with all
State Laws, he chooses not to? Why? He and our Town
are currently breaking the Law.
4. Include Citizens in Planning for the
Future - From 2004 to 2007 I obtained Grants and
other State money to have Expert Professional
studies done on our Drinking Water, Sewer, Waste
Water Discharge, Health & Environment, Historic &
Cultural Inventory, Tourism & Education, County
Airport Zoning study, and a plan for Complimentary
Commercial & Residential Zoning called the Behan
Report All this expert work was being reviewed by
Citizen Committees to finalize for presentation at
Public Hearings for approval by the Voters.
Mike Hayes put aside all of the above in
favor of the “Seat of the Pants” approach.
Mike’s planning is done in conjunction with insiders
and his own home based business expertise in fixing
bus and tractor engines. As in the Old Days, citizen
input is not needed, he and his friends know what
should be done. Mike Hayes’ approach is a plan for
haphazard growth, unknown cost’s for
taxpayers and a sure thing for his friends.
5. Recurring Problems with Revenue Producing
Projects must be dealt with. The Town’s regulations
are routinely ignored. There should be consequences
for those developers, builders and Businesses who
don’t live up to their promises or do sub-standard
work. Businesses who receive Empire Zone Benefits
must be held accountable for Creating and
Retaining the promised jobs in their proposals. |
